Greta Bo Lewis Bennett, age 85, of Wells Lane, Morehead, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead, Kentucky.
She was born August 3, 1938, in Morehead, a daughter of the late Emory "Wayne" Lewis and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Robert Edward Bennett on November 4, 2018; a brother-in-law, Jim Wells; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Lewis.
Greta is survived by three children, David Wayne (Nettamarie Tedder) Todd of Valrico, FL, Angela Bo Todd Stansel-LaPlace of St. Thomas, USVI, and Aleshi Jo (Darwin) Gregory of Morehead; five grandchildren, Gregory Wayne Todd, Ashley Diane Todd, Hannah Elizabeth Stansel, Kevin "Kevito" John (Anjolie) LaPlace, and James Darwin Matthew Gregory; and two great grandchildren, Tristan David Todd and Kain Joseph LaPlace.
Other survivors include a brother, John David Lewis of Wrigley; two sisters, Brenda Wayne Wells and Bridgett Lynn (Brian) Mollohan, all of Morehead, as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She is also survived by special friends, Kathy Adams Stamper, Della Clay, and Beverly Epperhart Williams; and former dance students who became lifelong friends, Mary Duggan and Nancy Duggan Mangrum.
Greta earned bachelor and master degrees in education and taught at the elementary, high school and post-secondary level for nearly 30 years in four states. While teaching in Texas, she was the recipient of the H. Ross Perot Award. In addition to teaching in public schools, Greta was the director for the Vietnamese Relocation Program in Port Isabel, Texas, and an administrator at Rowan County Christian Academy.
Greta owned and operated Greta Bo's Dance Studio in Morehead and taught classes in West Liberty and Mt. Sterling for many years. She also taught dance at Morehead State University and in Texas and New Mexico while residing there.
She was a historian and loved researching her family's genealogy and assisting anyone interested in learning about family history. Greta was active in Republican Party politics and was a member of the Morehead United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed dancing, theater productions, especially ballet musicals, antiquing, and making ceramics. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will keep her memory alive in the hearts of those who knew her. She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed.
A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. J. D. Reeder and Pastor Jeff Fannin officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers: Matthew Gregory, Tristan Todd, Captain Ron Stansel, Kevin "Kevito" John LaPlace, Nathan Cox, Zach White, and Jamie Clay.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
