Obituary

Grace Lyon Rose, age 91, of Mauk Ridge, Elliott County, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at her home while surrounded by family and friends. Grace was born May 25, 1918, in Elliott County, Kentucky, daughter of the late George and Lucinda Cox Lyon. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Lyon and Ottie McGuire; a brother, Rex McDowell; two sons, Leonard and Paul Rose; and her husband, Earnest William Rose, who passed away July 25, 1969. Grace is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Rose, who lived at home and cared for her mother; Mary Ann (David) Lemasters of Houston, Texas, and Leeda (Colin) Cox of Carlisle, Kentucky; four sons, Elmon (Carol) Rose of Franklin, Ohio, and Roy (Deloris) Rose, Vernon (Sharon) Rose and Jerry (Ila Jean) Rose, all of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and daughter-in-law, Betty (Leonard) Rose of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. The family gives special thanks to Grace-s special caregivers, Helen Riddle, Karen Smith, Roy Ison, Lucy Horton, and St. Claire Regional Medical Center-s Home Health. Grace was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She spent many years of her life quilting, canning, and helping her neighbors in many ways. She loved gardening, raising chickens, and most of all-her nine children. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Brother Russell Griffith and Brother Ennis Lewis officiating. Special singing will be performed as Grace is laid to rest in the Clark Cemetery in Elliott County. Pallbearers will be Elmon Rose, Roy Rose, Vernon Rose, Jerry Rose, Jason Rose, Jeff Cox, Robbie Cox, and Dustin Kelley. Visitation will be Saturday, September 12, 2009, from 1 p.m. until the funeral at 3 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
