Glaspie F. Adkins Jennings, age 73, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born December 14, 1937, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the only daughter of the late Beecher and Opal Whitt Adkins. Her husband, Marvin Jennings, whom she married June 5, 1955, preceded her in death on May 26, 1990. Glaspie is survived by one daughter, Kathy Elaine Richardson and husband Paul of Morehead, Kentucky; one son, Gary Marvin Jennings and wife Georgette of Frankfort, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Christopher Marvin Jennings, Matthew Richardson and wife Cassandra , and Whitney Richardson, all of Morehead, Kentucky; and two great grandsons, William and Jackson Richardson. Other survivors include four brothers, Paul Adkins of Morehead, Kentucky, Madison Adkins and his wife Theresa of Winchester, Kentucky, Darrel Adkins and his wife Phyllis of Galena, Ohio; and Michael Adkins and his wife Cathy of Estero, Florida; several nieces and nephews; other family members; and many friends. Following her retirement from G.T.E. as a telephone operator, Glaspie worked for the Rowan County schools as a special education aide and bus driver, and for several years was an employee at Occasions Gift Shop. Glaspie, a beloved member of the Morehead community, was known for her unselfish caring for and sharing with others. She was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, her church family, and ballgames. Glaspie rarely missed a softball or basketball game in the Rowan County schools, Morehead State University, or city or church leagues. She enjoyed being a scorekeeper and spearheaded countless fundraisers for all types of athletic events, traveled widely for the competitions, and received numerous awards for her contributions. She was especially proud of the Church of God Interstate Softball -Sarah Award- and the -Our Softball Mamaw- Award presented to her in Roanoke, Virginia, by the Morehead First Church of God. She also coordinated many fund-raiser dinners for the Church, the Rowan County Christian Academy, and special needs in the community. She also was well known for sharing her special meals in her home for the Rowan County High School and MSU basketball players, various church groups, senior citizens, and -just family and friends.- Glaspie was a Hospice volunteer and loyal and dedicated member of the First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at the Morehead First Church of God with Pastor Allan Hutchinson and Pastor Matthew Richardson, Glaspie-s grandson, officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Allen Bradley, Steve Stone, Allen Ravenscraft, Dean Gottler, Brian Lee, Kyle Bradley, Trevor Stone, and Brad Hutchinson. Honorary Pallbearers: Ron Jones, Don Jones, Brad Colllins, Larry Johnson, Garland Earley, Fred White and all Rowan County and Morehead State athletes Glaspie supported over the years. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, and anytime Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Visitation will be at the church after 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011. Contributions in memory of Glaspie Jennings may be made the Morehead First Church of God (for Paraguay mission support), 576 Sunset Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
