Gladys Horton Pennington Moore, age 88 years and 8 months, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008, at her residence. She was born February 23, 1920, in Elliott County, Kentucky, the oldest child of the late Roy and Beulah Mayse Horton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Kay Pennington, on April 26, 1944; one grandson, Dean Carter; her husband of 32 years and father of her children, Randolph Pennington, and her husband of 15 years, Harrison Moore. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Charles Roy and Jeannie Pennington of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Randy David and Teresa Pennington of Coldwater, Mississippi, and ten daughters and their husbands, Naomi and Harold Davis of West Liberty, Kentucky, Janice and Darryl Dennis, Linda Pennington, Elaine and Darrell Fannin, Diane and Phil Hardin, Claudette and Terry Green, Fonda and Ronald Weddington, and Drema Crum all of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Theresa and John Wolfenbarger, of Morehead, Kentucky, and Mary and Bob Barker of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Also surviving are one brother and his wife, John and Lona Horton of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; two sisters and their husbands, Anna and Bert Black of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Leota and Harold Tittle of Largo, Florida; 29 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; and a very special cousin, Monnie Colleen Hill of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Gladys had been a postmaster at Ruin, Kentucky; a dietitian at Morehead State University, and a director of the Senior Citizens Center in Carter County, Kentucky. In 1992, she retired from the Elliott County Board of Education as the supervisor of the school-s cafeteria. She was also a farmer and homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, neighbor, and friend. Gladys was of the Methodist faith. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harold Davis and the Rev. Gary Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at the Horton Cemetery on KY 755, South Ruin Road, in Elliott County, Kentucky. Pallbearers are her grandsons Dale Davis, Shane Dennis, Charles Ray Pennington, Chad Goley, Thomas Fannin, Kevin Hardin, Brandon Green, Timothy Allen Crum, and Ronald Weddington, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are all of her other grandchildren. Visitation is after 3 p.m. Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
