Gilford -Gib- Mayhorn, age 81, of Bluefield Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born May 28, 1928, in Pike County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Melvin and Elizabeth Eldridge Mayhorn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by four sons, Steve (Susie) Mayhorn, Randy (Connie) Mayhorn, and Thurman Carroll Mayhorn all of Morehead, Kentucky, and Ronnie (Lois) Mayhorn of Wilmington, Delaware; one daughter, Judy Mayhorn of Wilmington, Delaware; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, Mark Mayhorn of Delaware, and Ralph Mayhorn of Freeburn, Kentucky; two sisters, Elsie McCoy of Ransom, Kentucky, and Fay Hatfield of Wilmington, Delaware; and a host of nieces and nephews. Gib was a farmer, heavy equipment operator, and coal miner for the Kentucky Carbon Coal Company in Pike County, Kentucky. He enjoyed woodworking, gunsmithing, fishing, and hunting. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Steve Mayhorn and Brother Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
