Geraldine Mae Shay Adkins, age 84, of Flemingsburg Road, Morehead, Kentucky, departed this life on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born October 23, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Allie G. and Beulah Mae Rayborn Shay. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Adkins in 1964; one brother, Edwin Shay; and one infant son, Ronnie. Mrs. Adkins is survived by one daughter, Linda (Kenny) Hamilton of Morehead, Kentucky; one son, Dennis (Jeanie Beth) Adkins of Grayson, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Tracy (Connie) Hamilton, Rossaline Deheart, and Kimberly Hamilton, all of Morehead; eight great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Bobby (Alice Mae) Shay of Garden City, Michigan; two sisters, Dora (Howard) Alliman of Toledo, Ohio, and Mary (Calvin) Wells of Soldier, Kentucky; and one sister-in-law, Ester Shay of Ironton, Ohio. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives to mourn her passing, as well as her faithful poodle, Butterscotch. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Niles, Ohio. In recent years, she attended the Soldier Wesleyan Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joe Williams and the Rev. Kenny Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in the Engle Hall Cemetery in Soldier, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Tracy Hamilton, Richard Traylor, Tom Alliman, Steve Rice, Vernon Bowman, and Chad Dickerson.
