Gerald M. Arnett, age 67, of McBrayer Road, Clearfield, teacher, coach, and farmer, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Owingsville Manor in Owingsville. He was born October 6, 1948, in Clearfield, a beloved son of the late Rev. Sherman R. Arnett and Mary Laverne Coffee Arnett. Survivors include one sister, Brenda (Jim) Engle of South Vienna, Ohio; one brother, Dr. Larry (Dr. Shelia) Arnett of Morehead; six nieces and nephews: Jennifer (Andrew) Vorhees; Dr. Mark (Tamara) Engle; Brandy (Sgt. Trooper Toby) Coyle; Brett (Colleen) Arnett; Brooke (Gerritt) Jones; and Blake Arnett; ten great nieces and nephews: William, Anna, Sarah, and Benjamin Engle; Henry and Charles Vorhees; Lucas and Serena Coyle; and Grant and Grace Jones; extended family and close friends. Gerald graduated from Rowan County High School and received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Morehead State University. A retired teacher, he began his career at Bethel Elementary School as teacher and basketball coach and later moved to Bath County High School as a math teacher and assistant basketball coach where the team went to the state tournament on three different occasions. His success continued as a math teacher and assistant basketball coach at Rowan County High School, again taking three teams to the state tournament. Following his retirement, he focused on his lifelong passion for farming, raising crops and cattle and just 'being on a tractor.' A generous, kind, and peaceful person, Gerald maintained friendships with former students who often credited him for helping shape their lives. He loved all his family, but especially cherished his nieces and nephews who will always carry with them the life lessons Uncle Gerald instilled. He was of the Freewill Baptist Faith and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr., officiating. Gerald will be laid to rest next to his parents in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mark Engle, Brett Arnett, Blake Arnett, Toby Coyle, Gerritt Jones, and Andrew Vorhees will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
