George E.
Scanlon
Apr 16, 1937 — Feb 28, 2015
George E. Scanlon, 77, of Peddler Street, West Liberty, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015, at his residence. Born April 16, 1937, in Lexington, he was a son of the late George Mike Scanlon and Lucille Riddle Scanlon Hillock. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Perry Scanlon; a daughter, Cheri Scanlon Wagoner; and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Arnold. George is survived by one son, James Eric Scanlon, and two daughters, Betty and Chris Barker and Penni and Greg Adkins, all of West Liberty; one brother, Charles and Lyda Scanlon of Carlisle; grandson, Cody Barker and fianc-e Haley Lykins; granddaughter, Erica Shayne Lyons; great granddaughter, Emmalyn Grace Barker; step grandchildren, Caneishia Adkins, Corey and Megan Adkins, and Cameron Adkins, as well as his two best buddies, his pets Sweet Pea and Cricket. George was a retired bus driver for Morgan County Board of Education and Morehead State University. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and soul and could not wait to go home. He wanted to see God and Shirley, his wife; he was so heartbroken when Shirley passed, life was never the same for him. He loved to drywall, wood working, baking cakes, driving the bus and treating his bus kids on Friday (even if they had been acting up-he loved those kids!), telling jokes, and walking as the 'Tall Man' in the Sorghum Festival Parade. George never met a stranger and he loved to make people smile. He always wanted to help anyone in need and tried to do something to make the situation better. George will be so missed by his children, grandchildren, brother, nephews, nieces and all who knew him. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the Index Community Church in West Liberty with the pastor, Brother Mike Frisby, officiating.
