George E. Neal, 88, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on January 1, 2013, due to natural causes. George was born in Appalachia, Virginia, September 3, 1924. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 where he served mostly in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His ship was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. In later life, he and his wife operated a landscaping nursery business in Lakeland, Florida. George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Geneva; a daughter, Susan Baldwin and her husband David of Woodstock, Georgia; a son, Michael Neal and his wife Linda of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Chris Neal and Scott Neal of Morehead, Kentucky, Brian Perkins of Lakeland, Florida, Jason Perkins of London, Kentucky, and Kimberly Reed of Loganville, Georgia; and six great grandchildren. In addition, two sisters and two brothers survive him. George was preceded in death by a son, George Neal Jr. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Military honors will be presented by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
