George Alpha Mays, age 66, of Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010, at his residence. Born March 29, 1944, in Harlan, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Virgil and Anna Tye Mays. George is survived by two brothers, Curtis Mays of Wheelwright, Kentucky, and Tommy Mays of Durham, North Carolina; three sisters, Omega Rodgers of Harlan, Kentucky, Elizabeth Justice of Davison, Michigan, and Mary Mays of Wheelwright, Kentucky; other family members and friends to mourn his passing. George graduated from Wheelwright High School and received both the bachelor-s and master-s degrees from Morehead State University. He was a faculty member in the English Department at Morehead State University for 36 years. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Paul Prabell officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky.
