Obituary

Gene S. Hamm, age 87, of McBrayer Road, Clearfield, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. He was born August 28, 1928, in Clearfield, a son of the late Johnnie and Flora Amburgey Hamm. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Hamm, and one sister, Betty Carpenter. Gene is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Margaret Collins Hamm, whom he married July 3, 1953; three sons, Bob Hamm of Clearfield, Ron Hamm and Judy of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bill Hamm and Brenda of Elliottville; one daughter, Cathy Crager and Louie II of Clearfield; grandchildren, Robert Hamm, Jr, Shenena Hadley, Joshua Hamm, Jeremy Hamm, Jessica Fordice, Roxanne Hamm, Johathan Hamm, Rebecca Sertic, Shane Hamm, Amber Taulbee, Tiffany Crager, Beau Crager, and Sonny Crager; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Gene also leaves behind one brother, Pete Hamm of Clearfield; four sisters, Virginia Reynolds of Clearfield, Jolene Bentley of Clearfield, Peggy Miller of Anderson, Indiana, and Marie Reddecliff of Charlotte, North Carolina; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He retired from IBEW, Local 481, after working more than 60 years in Indianapolis and Kentucky. During his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, gardening, fishing, picking blackberries and nature in general. Gene was affectionately called the 'candy man' as he always carried candy to share with church family and friends. He was a member of the Clearfield First Church of God Tabernacle and had served as a board member. He was also a member and former chaplain of Corbie Ellington American Legion Post 126. Gene was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cecil Ison and the Rev. Max Molihan officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is Sunday, June 12, 2016, after 4 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Clearfield First Church of God Tabernacle, P.O. Box 31, Clearfield, KY 40313.
