Obituary

Gary M. Pennington, age 73, of Big Brushy Road, Morehead, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born August 13, 1947, in Grayson, he is the son of Maxine Horton Pennington of Morehead and the late Lowell Pennington, Sr.

On July 3, 1971, Gary was united in marriage his wife of almost 50 years, Jenetta L. Pennington, who preceded him in death on May 25, 2020.

In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by his daughter, Mary Kegley and husband Brad of Georgetown; his son, Scotty Pennington and wife Blain of Louisville; and his four grandchildren, Hunter Kegley of Georgetown and Parker, Channing and Hadley Pennington of Louisville.

Other survivors include nine brothers and sisters: Wendell Pennington and wife Marilyn of Louisville, Lowell Pennington, Jr. and wife Judy, Julia McClurg and husband Lee, Randy Pennington, Sr., Dwane Pennington, Dennis Pennington, Linda Hollis and husband Baker, Thomas Pennington, all of Morehead, and Rusty Pennington and wife Sandi of Woodstock, Virginia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Gary was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Muses Mills Christian Church.  An employee for more than thirty years for Carty and Carty Transport Company, a U.S. Postal Service contractor, he was still delivering mail from Lexington to Morehead.  He enjoyed collecting clocks and knives and looked forward to attending NASCAR races and car shows.  A devoted father and grandfather, he loved spending time with his children, especially his grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Private funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Pastor Doug Reeves officiating. The funeral service will be livestreamed beginning at 12:00 p.m. Thursday on the Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page.  Private burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126.

Pallbearers:  Nicky Pennington, Dwane Pennington, Randy Pennington, Jr., Lowell Pennington, Jr., Dennis Pennington, and Rusty Pennington.

COVID-19 restrictions as mandated by the Governor will be observed.
