Fred Monroe Busroe, Sr., 85, of Redding Road, Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Morehead, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022.

Born March 7, 1937, in Vansant, Virginia, he was the son of the late F. M. Busroe and Florence Ratliff Busroe.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jonathan Andrew "Andy" Busroe, on September 9, 2016.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanna Carter Busroe; one son, Fred M. (Donell) Busroe of Harlan, Kentucky; one daughter, Katie (Carl) Flansbaum of Nicholasville, Kentucky; and two grandchildren, Hannah (Connor) Leisge and Noah Busroe.

Fred graduated from Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee, and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia.  He also attended Union College, University of Georgia, University of Michigan, and Morehead State University.

Fred taught in the biology department at MSU for more than 30 years. Ornithology was one of his favorite courses as he was an avid birder, a hobby he began as a boy.  He shared his knowledge and love of birding with numerous school groups and community organizations over the years. He was a lifelong Presbyterian.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351 immediately followed by a memorial service with Rev. Katherine Redmond officiating.  Noah Busroe and Dr. Gerald DeMoss will provide eulogies.

Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens columbarium.
