Ferl Jean Caudill Sorrell, age 94, of KY 801 South, Morehead, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

She was born May 4, 1930, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Willis C. and Flora Mae Smoot Caudill.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Teddy Caudill, Osborne Caudill, Franklin Caudill, and Clyde Richard Caudill, and two sisters, Martha Alice Caudill and Gail Williams.

Her husband, Alvin Merrell Sorrell, preceded her in death on January 1, 2008.

Jean is survived by two children, Fred Caudill and wife Brenda and Cindy Smith and husband Billy, all of Morehead; two granddaughters, Brittany Bailey and husband Michael of Lexington and Mindy Smith of Morehead; and two great grandchildren, Blair Bailey and Drew Bailey.

Other survivors include one sister, Anna Belle Kelly of Owingsville; several nieces and nephews; extended family members and many friends.

She was a homemaker and a former machine operator at U.S. Shoe in Flemingsburg and Cowden's Manufacturing in Morehead.  Jean was also a brilliant and accomplished seamstress for 70 years.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family unconditionally. She was a member of Sharkey Baptist Church. Jean will be greatly missed and always remembered with appreciation and love.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Caldwell, Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. and Pastor Elijah Sexton officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
