Evelena Kiser Smith, age 80, of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, passed away on December 19, 2020, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born July 5, 1940, in Carter County, Kentucky, she was the eldest daughter of Ellen Oney Kiser and Marvin (Babe) Kiser. In addition to her parents, Evelena was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Kiser and John Kiser.
Evelena owned and operated Smith Grocery Store in Olive Hill. Later she managed Ridgeway Park Apartments in Flemingsburg and worked at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, taking cruises with her sister, and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Flemingsburg.
She is survived by her daughters Joyce Smith Thornsberry and husband Vaughn of Morehead, Kentucky; Judith Smith Richardson and husband Allen of Beckley, West Virginia; and her sons Jeffrey Smith of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and John Smith of Flemingsburg, Kentucky.
One of her greatest joys was her seven grandchildren Justin Thornsberry and wife Abby, Megan Thornsberry Stapleton, Chassi Smith Buckner, Emilee Smith Hamilton and husband Brandon, Britney Smith, Lauren Smith and Emma Smith. In addition, she had the pleasure of eight great grandchildren Breanna and Cameron Buckner; Willow Stapleton; Kingston and Graham Hamilton; Xander, Autumn, and Meadow Thornsberry. Other survivors include her sister, Gaye Fradkin, and her niece, Debra Fradkin Rowars, both of Boca Rotan, Florida.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals immediately followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. The Rev. Phillip W. De Vous will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Carter County.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to honor her memory to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
