Obituary

Eugene Edward -Gene- Reynolds, age 85, Frankfort, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born April 13, 1925, in Vandalia, Illinois, son of the late Jesse Delbert and Lennie Van Zant Reynolds. Gene graduated from Vandalia High School in 1943, served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-47, and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Forestry from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, in 1949. His professional career spanned 42 years with the Kentucky Division of Forestry and the Wood-Mosaic Corp. During these years, he initiated a forest survey in Kentucky, helped procure white oak logs for flooring in the National Art Gallery, Washington, D.C., and procured walnut for veneer in our Mexican Embassy. He was a member of the American Forestry Association, Kentucky Forest Industries Association, a lifetime charter member of the WW II Memorial, charter member of the U.S. Navy Memorial, and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a longtime member of the Frankfort First United Methodist Church. Gene is survived by his wife, Virginia Roberts Reynolds; son, Larry Reynolds (Norma), Louisville; daughter, Jennifer Reynolds, Frankfort; and sister, Juanita Howard, Woodridge, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Archie Reynolds; and two sisters, Opal Abendroth and Bonnie Blume. Visitation is Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. and again on Friday, May 21, 2010, from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 211 Washington St., Frankfort, KY 40601. Graveside service with military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126 will be 4 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2010, at the Brown Cemetery in Morehead, Kentucky In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Frankfort First United Methodist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky Visitation: Thurs. 6-9 pm and; Fri. 9:30-11 am, First United Methodist Church, Frankfort, KY Funeral: Friday, 11 am, First United Methodist Church, Frankfort, KY Interment: Friday, 4 pm, Brown Cemetery, Morehead, KY
