Etta Jane Caudill McCarty, 75, of Morehead, KY, passed with peace and grace on September 19, 2018, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born August 27, 1943, in Lexington, KY, she was predeceased by her loving husband, James H. McCarty Sr. in 2010, and her parents, the late Boone P. Caudill and Jane E. Caudill. Etta is survived by two sons, L. Scott (Cindy) Cassity of Knoxville, TN and Michael T. (Cathy) McCarty of Ashburn, VA; four step-children, James H. (Jerolyn) McCarty Jr. of Flatwoods, KY, Billy J. (Amelia) McCarty of Hilliard, OH, Kathy L. (Jim) Adams of Ashland, KY, and Suzie M. (Robert) Furnish of Flatwoods, KY; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include three siblings, Susie Skinner of St. Louis, MO, Proc (Bobbie) Caudill of Morehead, KY, and Sally VonLehman (Jim Anthony) of Cincinnati, OH; dearest friend, Susie Halbleib; and other devoted family and friends. Etta Jane graduated from Breckinridge Training School in 1961 and the University of Kentucky in 1964. Demonstrating her love of and compassion for children, Etta Jane worked in various venues including special education, swimming, and as a director of camp programs. She also used her avid cooking and baking skills to serve the needs of others. Etta Jane was a deacon at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Morehead. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, whose greatest passion was helping others. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018, at First Christian Church, followed by a celebration of life at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Don Chase officiating. Burial will be in Caudill Cemetery on West Main Street. Pallbearers will be Robert Skinner, Boone Caudill, Aron Caudill, Ben Caudill, Chad VonLehman, and Sarah Walker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church Living Memorial Fund, 227 E.
