Ernest Edward Simmons, age 84, of Bearskin Hollow, formerly of Clearfield Street, Morehead, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, at his residence. Born March 27, 1932, at Newfoundland, in Elliott County, he was a son of Taylor and Clara Stafford Simmons. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Brown. His devoted wife of 54 years, Lois Evelyn Wagoner Simmons, passed away on May 10, 2012. Ernest is survived by one son, Delmane Simmons and his wife Shirley of Morehead; three brothers, J. H. (Jean) Simmons of Mansfield, Ohio, Clell (Vicia) Simmons of Sandy Hook, and Leo (Delma) Simmons of Detroit, Michigan; one sister, Ida (H. B.) Fannin of Sandy Hook; 5 grandchildren, Joey Brewer, Jessica Simmons, Mary Noone, Josh Simmons, Angel Simpson; 11 great grandchildren; extended family and friends. He was a farmer and former employee of J. C. Wells Lumber Company. Ernest enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and taking care of his wife Lois before she passed. He was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Starcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Wagoner Cemetery in Elliott County. Pallbearers: Joey Brewer, Patrick Simpson, Josh Simmons, Butch Simmons, Rodney Simmons, Timmy Simmons. Honorary pallbearers: Jamie Simmons, Glenn Moore, and Harold Moore. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
