Emma Jean Lewis Engle, age 81, of Bellamy Court, West Liberty, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was born January 16, 1929, at Zag, Kentucky, in Morgan County, one of 16 children of Clyde Livingston and Christine Callahan Lewis. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Arlie Lee Lewis, Chester Dewitt Lewis and Mary Frances Fairchild. Her husband, Jim Frank Engle, whom she wed December 3, 1948, passed away June 7, 1990. Mrs. Engle is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Helen Sandra Engle Williams (MSU Librarian Emeritus and Rowan County Public Library Director) and husband Daniel C. Williams of West Liberty, Kentucky. Other survivors include siblings Maxine Rigsby of Wallingford, Kentucky, Darrell Lewis, Nannie Lewis, Bernard Lewis, Goldie Rigsby, Clyde Lewis, Jr., Leatha Rigsby, Jimmy Lewis, Steve Lewis, and Drema Cox, all of West Liberty, Kentucky, Richard Lewis and Connie Hutchinson of Fairborn, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, C. B. Engle of Xenia, Ohio. Mrs. Engle was a homemaker and beloved wife and mother. She and her husband also owned and operated Engle Grocery on KY 519 from 1953-1960. She was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at New Hope Baptist Church with Pastor George Oney and Stephen Howard officiating. Burial will follow at the Howard-Lewis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Tim Clark, Jim Fleshman, Junior Hager, Douglas Howard, Stephen Howard, and Tommy Payne. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at New Hope Baptist Church, Gordon Ford Road, West Liberty, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky.
