Emma Myrtilla Edgerton Black, age 80, of Jason Way, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Born May 20, 1931, in Hornell, New York, to Ira and Nellie Lee Edgerton, Emma was raised in Cranston, Rhode Island. Emma married her husband of 57 years, J. C. Black, on April 2, 1954, and moved to Morehead. In addition to her husband, she is also survived by four sons and their wives, John and Becky Black of Owingsville, Kentucky, Tim and Dorothy Black of Morehead, Kentucky, Dan and Gwen Black of Brooksville, Kentucky, Greg and Freida Black of Rydal, Georgia, and five grandchildren, Sarah, Jared, Kamryn, Jonathan, and Samuel. Other survivors include one brother, Ira Lee Edgerton of Bayboro, North Carolina; one sister, Nell Kidd of Morehead, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. Emma earned a secretarial degree from Bryant University in Providence, Rhode Island, and a bachelor-s degree and a master-s degree in education from Morehead State University. She was a secretary for Gorham Silver in Providence, a secretary in the Rowan County Extension Office, and a secretary/aide for the University Breckinridge Head Start Program. She was a former president of the Morehead Grade School Parent Teacher Association. Emma enjoyed crocheting, quilting and traveling. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Don Mantooth and Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery in Midland. Pallbearers: Fred Brown, Paul Brown, Jeff Weaver, Ethan Edgerton, Jared Black, Chip Logan, Dale Craft, Dave Fultz, and Jim Nickell. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Friday, September 16, 2011, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 1 p.m. Interment: Jones Cemetery, Midland, Kentucky
