Elmo Stigall, age 81, of CCC Trail, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness. Born December 28, 1927, in Carter County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Russell and Cora Lee Fraley Stigall. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nola Trent Stigall on September 30, 2000; his stepfather, Bert Purnell; and one brother, Emil Purnell. Elmo is survived by one son, Elmo (Sylvia) Stigall, Jr. of Morehead; two daughters, Brenda (Tommy) Hreha of Stanford, Kentucky, and Rhonda (Mike) Crouch of Morehead, Kentucky; three brothers, Junior Purnell of Morehead, Kentucky, James A. Purnell of Edgemoor, South Carolina, and Emery A. Purnell of Morehead, Kentucky; two sisters, Deloris -Lois- Smoak of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Barbara Sue Owens of Morehead, Kentucky; four grandsons, Jonathan and Christopher Stigall and Tyler and Matthew Crouch; and one great granddaughter, Lexie Stigall. Elmo served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He was a former member of the American Legion, a self-employed Construction Contractor for several years, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He loved hunting and fishing, going to swap meets, wood working, reading, visiting relatives and friends, ginseng hunting and especially helping others. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Trent Cemetery on the Recie Trent farm, CCC Trail, Morehead, Kentucky, with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Mike Crouch, Tyler Crouch, Matthew Crouch, Jonathan Stigall, Christopher Stigall, and Leroy Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Baker, Loren Holbrook, Jack Lee Owens, Jackie Winters, Roger Trent, and Junior Ray -Bug- Royse. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Visitation: Monday, July 13, 2009, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 1 p.m. Interment: Trent Cemetery, CCC Trail, Recie Trent farm
