Obituary

Elma Lou Howard Carter, age 68, of Parkside Court, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born April 11, 1940, in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Watt and Elsie Marie Rice Howard. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Silas Watt Howard; two sisters, Rose Coleman and Lillian Faye Hord; and the father of her children, Emil Carter. She is survived by three sons, Emil Dewayne Carter and wife Alicia of Georgetown, Kentucky; Michael Allen Carter and wife Cindy of Morehead, Kentucky; and Rodney Blake Carter of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters, Rhonda Gaye Strickler and husband Greg of Shiloh, Ohio, and Rita Kay Yates of Jeffersonville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Other survivors include one sister, Mable Claire Brown and husband Kenneth of Shelby, Ohio; one brother, Charlie Fred Howard and wife Kristi of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; a special friend, Wylie Glover of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carter retired from the food services department at Morehead State University and was a former LPN at St. Claire Regional Medical Center and the Morehead Clinic. She enjoyed raising a garden, canning vegetables, cooking, sitting on her porch, and listening and dancing to Bluegrass music. Most of all, she loved her family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Billy T. Rice and the Rev. Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Allen Carter, Jeremy Andrew Carter, Greg Strickler, Aaron Blake Carter, Michael Lee Masters, and Kenneth Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Blake Carter, Brian Glenn Carter, and Joseph Raymond Yates. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Visitation: Saturday, December 6, 2008, after 6 p.m. Funeral: Sunday, December 7, 2008, at 2 p.m. Interment: Elliott County Memory Gardens
