Ellis Leray Johnson, 77, of Bearskin Hollow, Morehead, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington. Born November 9, 1935, in Haldeman, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Hallie 'Red' Johnson and Bertlee Rice Johnson. His wife, Ruth Fay Kissinger Johnson, passed away June 8, 1991. He is survived by three sons, Ellis Ray Johnson and wife Sherry of Morehead, Milton Johnson and wife Beth of New York State, and Mike Johnson and wife Melinda of Morehead; six grandchildren, Brandi, Amanda, Whitney, Matthew, Anthony, and Hallie; and one great grandson, Austin. Other survivors include four brothers, Ottoway Johnson of Valparaiso, Indiana, Donnie Johnson and Gary Johnson, both of Haldeman, and James Johnson of Monticello, Indiana. Ellis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired steel worker. Always interested in community improvement, he served as vice president of the Haldeman Hayes Crossing Community Center and was a principal contributor to the rebuilding effort of the Haldeman School. In addition to his interest in electronics and technology, he enjoyed communicating as 'Shoe Maker' and 'KF4NAA'on his CB and Ham radios. Ellis was a U.K. Wildcats fan and an avid outdoorsman who looked forward to his annual fishing trip with his brother and oldest son. He attended the Haldeman Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in Newsill Cemetery with military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Pallbearers will be Ellis Ray Johnson, Milton Johnson, Mike Johnson, Donnie Johnson, Gary Johnson, and James Johnson.
