Eleanor 'Nellie' Roberta May, age 83, of Forest Hills Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord peacefully at her home on Friday, May 10, 2013. She was born August 5, 1929, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, August 5, 1929, to the late William Robert Abell and Clara Alice Combs Abell. She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Waughneta Clarice Fehr; sister, Treva Virginia May, and brother, George Lee Vern Abell. Nellie is survived by her husband, Byron Jean May, whom she wed November 7, 1959; children, Clarice May of Post Falls, Idaho, Russell May and wife Elena of Morehead, Kentucky, and Eleanor Saunders and husband Mark of Brandon, Florida, and eight grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, Gareth Floyd Rosser Abell of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Irwin Robert Abell and wife Rita of Vern, Idaho, as well as nieces and nephews and extended family. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Nellie was a devout Christian and community volunteer. Prior to moving to Morehead two years ago, Nellie and Byron resided in Indianapolis, Indiana, where they were actively involved in the Church at the Crossing. She graduated from the University of Alberta School of Nursing, Anderson College with a B.A. in Bible, and Indiana University with an M.A. in Nursing Education. She taught nursing, Bible study, Sunday school, sang in the choir, played the piano and organ. She also enjoyed being with family, camping, and traveling. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals from 1 p.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Russell May, Ben Saunders, Cooper Saunders, James May, Myron May, and Ron Napier. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Gideons International.
