Obituary

Elder Zora Jefferson Adkins, age 76, of Haldeman Heights, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. He was born January 1, 1941, in Rowan County to the late Casie and Velda Conley Adkins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lowell Ray Adkins, and one sister, Betty Noreen Adkins. Zora is survived by his wife of 56 years, Genevieve 'G.G.' Messer Adkins, whom he married August 13, 1960; one son, Jeff (Amanda) Adkins; and one daughter, Jamie Adkins, all of Morehead; five grandchildren, Shayla Adkins, Khi Adkins, Sean Bowman, Devany Blevins, and Ethan Mays; and one sister, Barbara (Steve) Young of Morehead. He also leaves behind several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, as well as other relatives and friends. Zora had been member of the National Guard and was a former Hitchens Brickyard employee and M.S.U. electrician. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and U.K. basketball. A Christian since 1977, he was an elder at Hayes Branch United Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Elder Austin Knipp and Elder Lewis Baier officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barbara Young, Alex Messer, Brad Messer, Khi Adkins, Jeff Jones, Jordan Wilson, Sean Bowman, and Ethan Mays. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
