Elbert -Bert- Davidson, 88, of W. Scott Court, Clearfield, Kentucky, formerly of Ashland, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at his home. He was born February 4, 1923, at Boat, Kentucky, in Perry County, son of Dan and Sarah (Bishop) Davidson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ada (Howard) Davidson; one brother, Rufus Davidson; and two sisters, Alpha Hamilton and Mae Watson. Bert is survived by his wife, Margaret -Margie- (Fields) Davidson; one stepson, Rev. Mike Pennington and wife Charlotte of Clearfield, Kentucky; one brother, Squire Davidson of Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Wanda Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada; one granddaughter, Andrea Hope Pennington; and several nieces and nephews. Bert was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in Guam during World War II. He was a wholesaler for a number of years and founded Davidson-s IGA Foodliner in Russell, Kentucky, which he owned and operated until the mid 70s. Bert also enjoyed raising cattle at his Davidson Fairway Farm in Boyd County and was especially proud of his prize-winning bull. While living in Ashland, Bert was a dedicated member of Westwood Enterprise Baptist Church. After moving to Morehead in August 2008, he and Margie attended Johnson First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ed Cooke, Rev. Ben Furman, and Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Jerry Arthur, Mike Gambill, Glenn Hall, Johnny Hatfield, J. C. Jolley, Don Litton, Doug McKenzie, and Thomas Snelling. Visitation is from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, Kentucky.
