Obituary

Edith V. Cline, age 99, of Middletown, Ohio, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, died July 6, 2010, at Hawthorn Glen Nursing Home in Middletown, Ohio. She was born April 15, 1911, in Elliott County, Kentucky, to her parents, Roy B. Vencill and Bertha (Wells) Vencill. Her family moved to Haldeman, Kentucky, in 1925 where she helped her parents run the Kentucky Firebrick Boarding House. Here she met her future husband, Ora L. Cline, who worked in the clay mines and studied electricity in his spare time. In 1933, Edith graduated from Morehead State Teachers College. She taught school for two years and then worked for the USDA extension office in Morehead. Edith and Ora were married in 1940. Soon after, they opened Morehead Plumbing & Electric Shop and operated it continuously until his retirement in 1976. During her lifetime, Edith filled many positions in the Morehead First Church of God and the Rowan County Homemakers Club. She was also a volunteer with the St. Claire Medical Center Auxiliary for more than 50 years. She loved to cook and cross stitch. Until her eyesight failed, she made many beautiful cross stitched quilts which she shared with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years; two brothers, Glenn W. Vencill and Kenneth M. Vencill; and a grandson, Peter A. Cline. Mrs. Cline is survived by her sister, Ina Black of Pittsburgh, PA; two sons, Roy W. Cline (Donna) of Middletown, OH and Glen E. Cline of Arcadia, CA.; three grandsons, Barry, Brian, and Brett; one granddaughter, Stephanie; and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, Kentucky. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Williams officiating. A private burial service will be held for the family at Brown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Cline-s name to the Ora L. and Edith V. Cline Memorial Fund at Caring Partners International, 601 Shotwell Drive, Franklin, Ohio 45005 Visitation: Friday, July 9, 2010, 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 11 a.m. Interment: Brown Cemetery
