Obituary

Edgar Cantrell of Clearfield went to be with the Lord at the Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville on July 23, 2015, at the age of 101 years, 4 months, and 18 days. Born March 6, 1914, in Nicholas County, he was a son of Sanford and Celina Bolin Cantrell. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arlie Cantrell, Thurman Cantrell, and Earl Cantrell; and two sisters, Nettie Ball and May Cantrell. His loving wife of 78 years, Mattie Cantrell, whom he wed March 22, 1937, preceded him in death on March 21, 2015. Mr. Cantrell is survived by two daughters, Nettie Jean Tewell and Ed of Louisville and Fern Morris and Danny of Winchester; one granddaughter, Evetta Skaggs and Spike of Clearfield; two grandsons, Randell Burks and Terry of Apopka, Florida, and Jimmy L. Carpenter and Tammy of Louisville; 12 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include one brother-in-law, Parley Cantrell and Jean of Woodsbend; one sister-in-law, Lina Keeton of Paris; one nephew, Earl Dean Cantrell of Shelbyville; one niece, Linda Cantrell Keys of Louisville; several cousins; one special Hospice nurse, Teresa Wheeler; Bro. Don Rivers, who visited weekly; and many friends and church family whom he loved dearly. Always a helpmate to Mattie, Mr. Cantrell was a very loving and devoted husband. He dearly loved his family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as his beloved niece and nephew. A lifelong Christian, he was always involved in church activities and greatly missed attending church in recent times because of ill health. He was a farmer and member of the Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Don Rivers and the Rev. Lloyd Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Gusty Smith Cemetery, Hwy. 589 (Middle Fork), West Liberty. Pallbearers: Jacob Cantrell, Dale Cantrell, Danny Cantrell, Paris Cantrell, Jesse Cantrell, and Jeremy Skaggs. Honorary pallbearers: Cassie Cantrell and Spike Skaggs. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2105, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
