Durward B. Lewis, age 95, of Colfax Road, Hillsboro, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, at his residence. He was born December 17, 1919, in Grange City to the late Leander and Viola Crawford Lewis. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Verlin and Nathan Lewis, and two sisters, Lena Pickrell and Vern Lewis. Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie Black Lewis, whom he wed July 3, 1948; two sons, Rickey Lewis and wife Katha and Glennis B. Lewis and wife Donna, all of Hillsboro; one daughter, Gekita Fawns and husband Kenny of Owingsville; seven grandchildren, Chad Williams, Tracy Vice, Eric Lewis, Ashley Glover, Glennissa Lewis, Whitney Caskey, and Cody Wayne Lewis; 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Durward was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the recipient of the Purple Heart, Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star. He retired from Blue Grass Army Depot after 20 years of service. He was a Kentucky Colonel and lifelong farmer. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Hutton Funeral Home with Bro. Billie Wagoner and Rev. Vernon Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with full military honors by W.N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834. Pallbearers: Chad Williams, Eric Lewis, Cody Lewis, James Engle, Richard Engle, Clark Vice, Jeremy Glover, and David Jent. Honorary pallbearers: Bobby Flora, Charles Curtis, Scotty Dailey, and Bill Gross. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
