Obituary

Douglas W. McLoney Sr., of Morehead, 86, quietly departed life on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, surrounded by his caring family. Born in Warren, OH, on October 2, 1928, Mr. McLoney lived several years in Wyandotte, MI, before returning as a young boy to the family farm in Harrison County, KY. Douglas attended the Augusta Military Academy and the Virginia Military Institute where he graduated in Civil Engineering with honors. His military experience continued after graduation where he served his country honorably in the Air Force 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing during the Korean War. Following his military service, he obtained his graduate degree in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. McLoney established his architectural firm in Lexington, KY, and worked at his specialty for over sixty years, at one time maintaining the largest architectural firm in the state. His firm's projects include the Lucille Markey Cancer Center, Southcreek Park office complex, Thomas Hunt Morgan Biological Sciences Building, Tobacco Research Center and numerous other projects throughout the state. In addition to his work, Mr. McLoney enjoyed spending time with his family and vacationing at his home in Hilton Head Island, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Elizabeth Bullus McLoney as well as his only sibling, Thorne C. McLoney. Douglas is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Jean McHugh McLoney and their three sons-Doug (Effie), James (Suthanya), and Greg (Kathy) McLoney, as well as ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at Jesus Our Savior Parish in Morehead, Pastor Rev. Paul Prabell and Rev. Andrew Young will concelebrate the Mass. Following the Mass, Mr. McLoney will be buried with military honors at Battle Grove Cemetery in Cynthiana. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Jesus Our Savior Church, 315 Battson Avenue, Morehead, KY 40351 or American Legion Post 126, P. O. Box 58, Morehead, KY 40351.
