Obituary

"She wins friends with a smile and works all the while."  Dotty Alderson, 1964 Dorthula "Dotty" Wescott Alderson, 78, of Greenbend Road, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.

She was born at Wescott Hollow in Rowan County on July 18, 1946, to the late Virgil T. and Madeline Sorrell Wescott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Albert MacArthur Alderson Sr., and her son, Albert MacArthur Alderson Jr., both of whom she has missed immensely since their passing. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Teresa Marie Wescott, Shasta Conn, Mada Poston, and Donna Stamper; one half-brother, Nathanial Forrest Wescott. Survivors include her son, James Alderson; sister, Rita Wescott of Lexington; Terry Mitchell Wescott of Louisville, and daughter-in-law Melina and her son Brandon. Along with her brother, sister and her son, she also leaves behind two grandsons whom she loved and cherished, Kenneth and Austin (and Austin's wife, Carley) and their mother Roxanne who cared for her in her final days.

Many nieces and nephews also survive as well as two special friends, Randall and Louise. Dotty began her life of service to others in 1976 by becoming a nurse. A life-changing career spanned more than 40 years at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Life Care Center in Morehead, and Ridgeway Nursing and Rehab in Owingsville until her retirement in 2016. Even though she had hung her stethoscope up, she still stayed up to date on all of the latest happenings in nursing and even kept her nursing license current just in case she was ever needed somewhere. She was known for her strong alto voice when singing in church and her smile that could light up a room. Her and Al's love story began at Slaty Point Church in the 1950's and would last over half a century totaling 63 years until his untimely passing in 2021. They were both longtime and faithful members of the church and served on various boards and different positions in the church. Dotty was a devout Christian, a devoted wife, sister, mother, and especially grandmother. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family, church family, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2025, at the Slaty Point Baptist Church (2400 Lower Licking Road, Morehead, KY) with Pastor Mark Caldwell, Pastor Jeff Fannin and the Pastor Rusty Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow in Slaty Point Cemetery.
