Donald Thompson, Sr., age 78, of Campbell Branch East, Morehead, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018, in Chesterton, Indiana. Born July 10, 1940, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Estill Vernon Thompson and Anamary Burton Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant siblings and three brothers, Vaughn, Ralph, and Lester Thompson. Also, he was preceded in death by his companion of 30 years, Doris Richmond Pennington. He is survived by two sons, Donald Thompson, Jr., and David (Heather) Thompson, all of Chesterton, Indiana; two daughters, Cathy Fernandez of Flower Mound, Texas, and Sherry (Rick) Aguilar of Carrollton, Texas; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Other survivors include four brothers, Ronnie (Barbara) Thompson of Olive Hill, Darrell (Beverly) Thompson of Morehead, Eugene (Shelley) Thompson of Bath County, and Claude (Jacqueline) Bradley of Olive Hill; one sister, Betty Butler of Salt Lick; and several nieces and nephews. Donald was proud of his service in the U.S. Army. He served in Germany during the cold war. Donald worked in the union as an offset printer in Chicago, Illinois, Baltimore, Maryland, and Gary, Indiana. He retired and lived on the farm where he was born for over 30 years with his companion Doris. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Herbert D. Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Thompson Cemetery on Campbell Branch with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers: Darrell Thompson, Eugene Thompson, Claude Bradley, David Thompson, Gavin Thompson, and Steven Thompson.
