Donald J.
Mcbrayer
Jan 15, 1941 — Jul 1, 2024
Donald J. McBrayer, age 83, of Hilliard, Ohio, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, husband of Victoria Lynn (Stacy) McBrayer, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at The Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing in Dublin, Ohio.
Born January 15, 1941, in Rowan County, Kentucky, Don was a son of Joseph and Viola Pettit McBrayer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Martha Louise Meyer, Christine Trent Kiser, Pearl Marie Green, and Lilly Mae Catron.
In addition to Vickie, his loving wife of 45 years, Donald is survived by two daughters, Tammy McBrayer of Morehead, Kentucky, and Lisa Cloud and her husband Rob of Hilliard, Ohio; five grandchildren and their spouses, Aaron Kelsey and Tiffney, Anthony Cain and Jessie, Andriea Skaggs and Justin, Lindsay Karaoglan and Gui, and McKenzie Yeager and Chris; and nine great-grandchildren, Adriana, Jacob, Zachary, Jonathan, Kaitlyn, Madison, Liam, Cohen, and Raegan.
Others to cherish his memory include his sister, Ruth Ann Anderson of Anderson, Indiana; nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends.
Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for six years and was honorably discharged as an E4 in 1968. He continued to be a public servant during his employment with the Kentucky State Police. He was a KSP Dispatcher for ten years and later retired as a KSP Arson Investigator on March 26, 1987.
A member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654 for more than five decades, Don fulfilled many leadership roles. He also was a member of El Hasa Shriners in Ashland where he was a past Commander of El Hasa Legion of Honor and Past Commander of South Atlantic Shrine Association Legions of Honor. He was particularly proud of the support for Shriners Hospitals for Children and other life-changing programs.
Donald was a "people person" who enjoyed living each day to the fullest in every situation. Whether he was busy farming or serving customers at McBrayer Grocery or DM Post (the businesses he owned and operated), or volunteering, Don gained great satisfaction from helping others. Following his retirement, Don could not "sit still" and greatly enjoyed working part time at Lowe's.
Although Don will be missed by his loving family and many friends, his legacy will always shine brightly in their lives.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, at 12 noon at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Willie Sturgill officiating. Following the service, military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by Morehead American Legion Post 126.
