Obituary

Don Cherry, age 76, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014, at his home on Sunset Lane in Morehead. Born July 9, 1938, in Fulton, he was the son of the late Donald and Clella Elliott Cherry. A sister, Kay Cherry McFarland, also preceded him in death. Don received his B.S. degree from Murray State University and during the early sixties served in the Army Reserve Military Intelligence Unit. His career in manufacturing spanned more than forty years. Don was employed with Emerson Electric in Paris, Tennessee, Sunbeam Appliance in Holly Springs, Mississippi, and retired in 2005 as plant manager at Sealmaster in Morehead. He was an avid fisherman and duck hunter. A passion for golf resulted in his endeavor to establish Sheltowee Trail Country Club. Don is survived by his wife, the former Brenda Owens, whom he wed December 27, 1964; their three children: Tab (Candace) Cherry of Saltillo, Mississippi; Shannon (Jeffrey) Howell of Jackson; Shari Clagett of Morehead; their four grandchildren: Austin and Lee Ellen Cherry, Jolie Howell, and Owen Clagett; as well as two special cousins: Sheri Elliott Jeffress and Pat Elliott Ballou. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of the Morehead United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, with the Rev. Aaron Mansfield and the Rev. Daniel Lucas officiating. A celebration of life reception will be held in Wesley Hall at the church from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gateway Helping Hands, P. O.
