Obituary

Detta Frances Hall Sparks Barker, age 88, of East Hwy. 60, Salt Lick, formerly of Little Perry Road, Morehead, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

She was born October 1, 1934, in Morehead, a daughter of the late Squire Hall and Susan Mabry Hall.  Besides her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her first husband, Levi Sparks, Jr., and son, Rocky Wayne Sparks, on March 18, 1962; her second husband, Robert Barker on August 4, 2019; four brothers, Willis Hall, John Adkins, Charlie Adkins, and Burl Adkins; and three sisters, Lucy Dobbs, Dona Adkins, and Louise Fultz.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Gallagher and husband William of Richmond and Beverly Joan Nealis and husband Gerald of Olympia; two sons, Rex Allen Sparks and wife Anita Sparks of Stockton, Georgia, and Kevin Glen Barker of Salt Lick; 8 grandchildren, Audie Frances Highfield, Wendy Ann Wilson Newton, Jr. Wilson, Travis Sparks, Matthew Sparks, Sarah Beth Sparks Ebanks, John Edward Gallagher III, and William Daniel Gallagher, Jr.; 24 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sisters, Jeanette Cole of St. John, Indiana, and Beulah Buckner of Mansfield, Ohio; extended family; and friends.

Frances graduated from Rowan County High School and obtained a bachelor's degree in social work from Morehead State University.  She retired from the state as a social worker out of the Bath County office.  She loved to cook, shop, take walks with friends, and collect dolls. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and going to church. She was a member of the Salt Lick Freewill Baptist Church and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Andy Lands officiating.  Burial will follow in New Sill Cemetery.

Pallbearers:  Michael Newton, James Highfield, Audie Highfield, Justin Kramer, Austin Kramer, Jr. Wilson, Michael Simpkins, Jamie Simpkins, John Gallagher, and William Gallagher.

Visitation for Frances Barker will be from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
