Dessie Adkins Charles, age 84, of Piedmont Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at her residence. She was born August 28, 1926, in Morgan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Tony and Margaret Elizabeth (Lizzie) Hutchinson Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Raymond Charles, and one daughter, Frances Elizabeth Ferguson. She is survived by two sons, Larry Ferguson of Taylorsville, Kentucky, and Wayne Ferguson of Hillsboro, Kentucky; six daughters, Linda Helton, Sue Caudill, Debbie Smith and Marsha Clark, all of Morehead, Kentucky, Dianna Atkins of Lexington, Kentucky, and Kathy Caudill of Berea, Kentucky; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister and one brother, Mavery Vance and Raymond Odel Adkins, both of Morehead, Kentucky. Mrs. Charles was a homemaker and former cook at Rowan County Middle School. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers: Steve Ferguson, Tony Caudill, Mark Atkins, Richard Caudill, Bryan Smith, Jason Mach, Jarek Clark, and Bruce Adkins. Honorary pallbearers: Tony Ferguson, Jeff Caudill, and Todd Caudill. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky.
