Dean (Wells)
Carter
Jan 7, 1941 — Apr 30, 2024
Dean Wells Carter, age 83, of Concord, North Carolina, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the home of her daughter, where she had resided for the last 10 years.
Dean was born January 7, 1941, at Cannel City in Morgan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late J. C. Wells and Celia Richardson Wells. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Donald H. "Don" Wells, William T. "Bill Tom" Wells, and James C. "Jim" Wells; one sister: Clydia Jo Wells Wood; and two sons: John B. Carter and C. Lance Carter.
Dean is survived by one daughter, Milly Carter of Concord, North Carolina; one son, Troy Carter of Concord, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Tori Carter and Taryn Carter, both of Georgetown, Kentucky, Shelby Carter of Columbus, Ohio, and Chaz (Kelly) Carter of Okeechobee, Florida; one great grandson, Izeck Carter; one brother, David (Jo) Wells of Morehead; nieces and nephews; other extended family; and friends.
Dean graduated from Morehead High School in 1959, where she was active in student organizations and was a marching band majorette. Throughout her life, Dean's varied skills and talents were reflected in many ways. She was a dedicated worker for the family business, J. C. Wells & Sons, as well as the Gene White Lumber Company and Bill Fannin Lumber Co. Always eager to learn and to contribute to the community, she held leadership positions in organizations including the Kentucky Forest Industry Association (KFIA) and Business and Professional Women's Club. Most important to Dean, however, was her dedication to and affection for her family, as she provided for many years special care for multi-generations, including her children. Always an avid reader, she kept abreast of happenings in the world; enjoyed lively discussions with family and friends; and rooted for the KY Wildcats and Carolina Panthers. Dean's lively spirit will be missed.
A visitation celebrating Dean's life will be held from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals (400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351) followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
