David Ray Murphy, age 71, of Holly Fork Road, Morehead, KY, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at his residence.
Born October 8, 1953, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Raymond and Lenora Perkins Murphy. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one beloved granddaughter, Josey Starr Murphy, and two brothers, Pete Murphy and Bill Murphy.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Betty Jo Caudill Murphy, whom he wed December 15, 1973; their two dedicated sons, Bradley Murphy, who is a professional trainer, and Dr. Shannon Murphy, who is a teacher, and his wife Kerry; and one precious granddaughter, Zoe Beth Murphy, all of Morehead, Kentucky.
Other survivors include three sisters, Barbara Moore of West Liberty, KY, Charlotte Collins Bowman (Billy) of Clearfield, KY, and Helen Moore (Jackie) of Hillsboro, KY, as well as extended family and friends.
David was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and proudly served 32 years in the USDA Forest Service. He retired in 2009 as Recreation Engineer at Twin Knobs where he had also served as electrician and wastewater technician. He loved his career and his co-workers who became family to him. A great outdoorsman, he enjoyed farming, raising cattle and tobacco, hunting grouse, and raising and training bird dogs.
David was a member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654, El Hasa Shriners, and Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church.
David's legacy of service, dedication, and integrity will continue in the lives of those who loved and appreciated him.
Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025, at Hogge Cemetery (5959 Cranston Road, Morehead, KY 40351) with Father Ronald Sagum officiating.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Gartin, Casey Caudill, Bob Wells, Dallas Plank, Mike Conn, George Morrison, and Richard Hunter.
Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351 is caring for arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
