Obituary

Darrel Dean Baer, age 75, of Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Rico, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead after a long bout with emphysema. Born May 3, 1940, in Rico, Colorado, Darrel was one of eight children born to the late Murrey Lee and Thelma Naomi Hargove Baer. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother Donald, brother, Sidney Charles, and sisters, Donna Ruth and Carmen Lucille. Three siblings survive: Lee Emil, Sharon Ann, and Allen Ray. Darrel is also survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carolyn Sue Sparks Baer of Morehead; his daughter, Teresa Baer and husband Donald of Orlando, Florida; and his stepdaughter, Lisa Marie Poth of Morehead. One stepson, James Poth, of Morehead, preceded him in death. Darrel's beloved grandchildren survive him as well: Jacob Baer and Joshua Kiser, both of Aspen, Colorado; Lance Olive and Dean Olive, both of Orlando, Florida; David Poth, Matthew Sparks, and Tesla Sparks, all of Morehead; his beloved great grandchildren, Conner Poth and Darla Poth, both of Morehead, also survive. Darrel was a distinguished retired Navy veteran as well as a graduate of Morehead State University. He enjoyed his grandchildren immensely and will be missed tremendously by his entire family. There was never a time when he would not 'drop everything' to come to the aid of any family member or friend who was in need, whether it was a car problem, a financial issue or just plain no-nonsense advice. He was stellar and always there for us. His wishes are to have his ashes scattered in the mountains of Rico, Colorado, his boyhood home, where he often told us stories of youthful adventures with his best friend, Earl. While there will not be an official ceremony, please take a moment to remember the wonderful man that he was. May he rest in peace, until we meet again. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
