Darlene Lewis Brooks of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away at her home on December 30, 2014, after an extended illness. She was born December 29, 1947, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Lester Lee Lewis and Phoebe Adkins Lewis of Hillsboro, Kentucky. Darlene is survived by her husband, Ronnie (Jack) Brooks of Morehead, Kentucky; one son, Chance Pennington and her future son-in-law, Randy L. Little of Knoxville, Tennessee; three step-children, Dawn (Danny) Feltrop of Robinson, Illinois, Ronnie Joe (Davida) Brooks of Milton, West Virginia., Lori Ann (James) McCarty of Forney, Texas; and five step-grandchildren, Brooke Friley, Andrew Feltrop, Angie Brooks, Ashley Brooks, and Keelee McCarty. Darlene was employed for 37 years (1969 - 2006) as the Office Manager for Morehead Utility Plant Board. After her retirement, Darlene served briefly as a MUPB Board Member. She attended night classes at MSU and proudly earned her degree in 2000 while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She was very active in the Business and Professional Women's Club where she served as president. An avid golfer, she helped to establish Sheltowee Trail Country Club. A lifelong Democrat, she served on the Executive Committee of the Rowan County Democratic Party. Darlene was very active with the Hillsboro Elementary School Reunion Committee. A Celebration of Life will held 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Gerald Saunders officiating. Chance Pennington will provide family reflections. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Randy Day, Gene Buckler, Buster Alderman, Joe Qualls, Howard Helterbrand, and Mark Lewis. Visitation is from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
