Daniel Preston
Armstrong
May 14, 1957 — Apr 15, 2020
Daniel Preston Armstrong, age 62, of Hwy 519, Morehead, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Born May 14, 1957, in Morehead, he is the son of Fredia Adkins Armstrong and the late Clester L. (Booge) Armstrong, who passed away June 29, 2000.
Preston is also survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 40 years, Susan Snipes Armstrong, whom he wed March 28, 1980, and their three children, Michael Armstrong (Jennifer Brockman) of Clearfield, Brandon Armstrong of Morehead, and Jennifer Armstrong of Richmond.
Other survivors include three brothers, Butch Armstrong (Debbie), Rick Armstrong (Kathy), Stefan Armstrong (Anna), all of Morehead; two sisters, Debbie Mikell (Larry) of Lucasville, Ohio, and Yvonne Bradley (Rick) of Morehead; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Preston started working at the family business, Homer Gregory Lumber Company, at age 15. He loved working beside his Dad and learning all he could about the lumber business and the operation of a company. He graduated from lumber grading school in 1979 and worked his lifetime in the business. In 2013, he and Susan opened the Quilters Candy Shop. At the shop, he enjoyed meeting people and helping them figure out the math portion of their projects. Preston loved his family and their day-to-day activities as well as their "special" times. He loved working outside and gardening. In the fall, he delighted in canning and freezing the summer harvest that the family enjoyed during the winter months. He enjoyed the water, boating with the family, and watching John Wayne movies or Westerns in general. A long-time history buff, Preston was asked to participate in a re-enactment while on a family vacation. He truly was a "jack of all trades." To family and friends, Preston was known as Grumpy, the iconic Disney character. His daughter enjoyed getting "Grumpy" shirts and several quilt shop ladies joined in the fun. Preston was a devoted husband and father who will be greatly missed by his family and good friends.
Due to the COVID-19 regulations set forth by the Governor, a private family visitation will be held Saturday, April 18, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals followed by a graveside service at the Armstrong Family Cemetery.
