Obituary

Curtis Sloan, age 77, of Nesbitt Road, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Life Care Center of Morehead. He was born January 31, 1936, in Rowan County, Kentucky, the son of the late Dewey and Essie Butts Sloan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Carol Sloan, and two sisters, Patsy Gowens and Shirley Jane Sloan. Curtis is survived by his wife, Verna Mae Mays Sloan, whom he married October 16, 1982; one daughter, Deborah Oviedo of Morehead, Kentucky; three stepdaughters, Patty McIntosh of Clearfield, Kentucky, Carol Helterbrand and Connie DeWitt of Morehead, Kentucky; one stepson, Junior Stevens of Clearfield, Kentucky; one brother, Cleo Sloan and wife Maggie of Morehead, Kentucky; two step grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. Curtis was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a former mechanic at Sloan's Garage, and retired from Sealmaster. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising rabbits. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers: Junior Stevens, Joshua Stevens, Jason DeWitt, Tim Helterbrand, Joey Sloan, Charlie McIntosh, Rodolfo Oviedo, and Mike Craft. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, Kentucky. Visitation: Thursday, May 9, 2013, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Friday, May 10, 2013, at 1 p.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
