Clyde Chester -Shorty- Drake, age 74, of Wallingford, Kentucky, surrounded by loved ones, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010, at his residence after battling a long-term illness for many years. Shorty was born March 3, 1936, in Carter County, Kentucky, to the late Bill and Zola Roberts Drake. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Carl, John, and Roy Drake and two sons, Vernon Chester Drake and Richard Wayne Drake, both of Wallingford. Shorty is survived by his wife of 53 years, Christine Ann Roth Drake; two sons: Henry (Sandy) Drake of Wallingford, Glenn (Trish) Drake of Versailles; four daughters: Varline (Greg) Crum of Morehead, Tiline (Terry) Tackett of Wallingford, Brigitte (Virgil) Preston of Nicholasville and Maryann (David) Gavin of Wallingford. In addition, he is survived by 14 grandchildren: Shaune (Amanda) Drake of Wallingford, Tonya Drake of Wallingford, Vanessa Drake of Flemingsburg, Bobby Joe Brown of Olive Hill, David Brown of Morehead, Greg Crum of Morehead, Brian (Vanessa) Crum of Morehead, Steven Harn and Ashley, Brianna and Albert Preston of Nicholasville, Bradley Gavin of Chesapeake, Virginia, Sabian and Blaise Gavin of Wallingford, as well as 14 great grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by two adopted daughters: Carol (Gary) Cantrell of Wallingford and Rose Ann (Thomas) Hurt of Knott County and their children. He is also survived by four brothers: Arthur of Hamlet, Indiana, Willard of Mansfield, Ohio. Elmo of Leiters Ford, Indiana, and Robert of Wallingford, and five sisters, Dolly of Indiana, Dorthea of Morehead, and Lorraine, Shirley, and Christine, all of Wallingford. Shorty worked for many years in Mansfield, Ohio, as an overhead crane operator at Ohio Steel & Tubing, in addition to performing in a band, -Shorty D and the Dynamics- for a while becoming the #1 band in the area at that time. After becoming ill, he moved his family back to Kentucky, settling in Muses Mill where he became a farmer by trade raising cattle and tobacco. He also for several years raced cars at Fox Valley Raceway on Stockton Road as well as played music at Dunbar Farris- Barn Dance in Plummers Landing. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Steve Harn officiating. Burial will be in the Goddard Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shaune Drake, Sabian Watkins, Brian Crum, Greg Crum, Robert Drake, and Kelly Black. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky. Visitation: Monday, November 15, 2010, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. Interment: Goddard Cemetery
