Clayton Maddox, age 92, of Sugar Maple Lane, Emerson, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the Life Care Center in Morehead. He was born April 2, 1920, in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late Lazarus and Ida Garvin Maddox. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Ona Gilliam Maddox; one son, Ronnie Allen Maddox; one daughter, Janet Ruth Maddox; two brothers, Chester and Paul Maddox; three sisters, Della Rayburn, Juanita Hinds, and Inez Campbell. His wife of 70 years, Martha Elizabeth Gilliam Maddox, whom he wed February 2, 1942, passed away August 7, 2012 Survivors include one daughter; Anna Carnell and husband JR of Olive Hill, Kentucky; two sons, Robert Maddix and wife Georgia of Lexington, Kentucky, and Clayton Maddox, Jr., of Olive Hill, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Tena Davenport, Robert Maddix, Jr., Kevin Carnell, Megan Wright, Angela Maddox, and Kyle Maddox; several great grandchildren; one sister,Thelma McCormick of Sciotoville, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Maddox was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and retired from Carter Caves State Park. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Lewis Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Carter County with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Pallbearers will be Michael Botello, Robert Maddix, Jr., Willie Rose, James Gilliam, David Gilliam, and Earl Gilliam.
