Charlie D. Harris, age 64, of Fannin Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, May 16, 2008, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born February 29, 1944, in Elliott County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Chester and Martha Vesta Catron Harris. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Horton Harris, in 1999, and one brother, Talmadge Harris. Charlie is survived by his wife, Sue Bently Fannin Harris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Tom Haas of Wylie, Texas, and Dr. Beverly Renee and Aric Porter of Lexington, Kentucky; the Fannin children and their spouses, Timothy and Pam Fannin, of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Richard and Dolly Fannin of Morehead, Kentucky, and Deirdre and Gary Druin of Rosine, Kentucky. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Alicia Haas, Beau Porter, Allie Druin, Allison Druin, Ryan, Matthew, Logan, and Evan Fannin, and three brothers, Elwood Harris of Frankfort, Kentucky, Raymond Harris of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Chester Harris, Jr., of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Charlie graduated from Sandy Hook High School and, except for a few years he spent at Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan, he lived in Elliott County until he and Sue married eight years ago and he moved to Rowan County. Charlie was an agent for Commonwealth Life Insurance and for 27 years directed the federally funded program, EXCEP, that provided educational grants for students at vocational and technical colleges. Following retirement, he was a part-time employee at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Always a farmer and cattleman, Charlie was very active with the Rowan County Extension Services. He was a former member of the Rowan County Extension Advisory Board and a longtime member of the Eastern Foothills Cattlemen-s Association. He was a member of the Morehead First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson and the Rev. Bill Bently officiating. Entombment will follow in the Harris Family Mausoleum in Brown Cemetery. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, and from 1-8 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Morehead First Church of God or Rowan County Christian Academy, c/o Morehead First Church of God, 676 Sunset Lane, Morehead, KY 40351 Visitation: Saturday, May 17, 2008, after 6 p.m. Funeral: Monday, May 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. Interment: Brown Cemetery
