Charles Gilbert
Wooten
Feb 26, 1941 — Feb 6, 2025
Charles Gilbert Wooten, age 83, of The Friendship House, Everman Street, Grayson, Kentucky, formerly of Morehead, passed Thursday, February 6, 2025, at UK St. Claire HealthCare after an extended illness.
Born February 26, 1941, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Henry Harrison and Delphia May Byrge Wooten. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Paul, Corby, Earl, Clyde, Clifford, and Samuel Wooten, and six sisters, Maude Cassity, Geneva McClurg, Jeanetta Wooten, Rosa "Hazel" McClurg, Lavern Winzer, and Beverly Chapman.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Jean Ross Wooten, on May 1, 2014; two sons, Kevin Vale Wooten and Charles G. "Greg" Wooten; and his beloved Yorkie, "Rags."
Charles is survived by two sons, Kenny (Melanie) Wooten of Anderson, Indiana, and John G. (Rhonda) Wooten of Albany, Indiana; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; one brother, David Wooten of Muncie, Indiana; one sister, Sharon Blevins of Morehead; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Charles was a retired truck driver and loved being out on the road. He was also one of the first two ambulance drivers for Rowan County. He was a born-again child of God looking forward to seeing his Savior. He loved hunting, fishing, and playing music. He was a singer and bass player in the Wooten Brothers band. Charles was a great story teller and enjoyed spending time with friends, especially at the Friendship House telling tales of his life experiences--some real and some may be with a bit of a twist--but always with a sense of humor that they enjoyed that kept them laughing. Charles loved being with family and friends and will always be loved and sadly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Ashley Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
