Obituary

Charles Franklin Stansbury, 64, died unexpectedly Friday, March 4, 2011, at his home in Morehead of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Stansbury founded Charles F. Stansbury, CPA, PSC, of Morehead in 1980 and was the current Director of Finance for the City of Morehead and Rowan County. Charlie attended Morehead State University where he earned his BBA and his MBA majoring in accounting. He was especially pleased that he was able to pass the CPA exam upon his first attempt. Charlie began his CPA career with Somerville & Co., Huntington, WV, and then opened a CPA practice in Morehead. He was born February 21, 1947, in Nelson County, Kentucky, to James William and Edith Mae Adkins Stansbury. Charlie graduated from Nelson County High School in 1965 and was saved and baptized at New Salem Baptist Church near his family home. He served in Vietnam in 1968 with the US Army-s 138th Artillery. Charlie is survived by his wife, Bernadette Ballard Stansbury, whom he married on July 16, 1966; his son, Dr. Anthony (Cherri) Stansbury, of Morehead; his daughter, Lisa (Mike) Conn, of Morehead; his four grandchildren Nathan Stansbury, Rebecca Stansbury, Taylor Conn, and Faith Conn, of Morehead; three brothers, William Ray (Wanda) Stansbury, Mt. Washington, Lee Thomas (Judy) Stansbury, Cox-s Creek, and Rev. Victor (Joan) Stansbury, Lebanon; and one sister, Frances (Ernie) Fulkerson, of Cox-s Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Stansbury. Mr. Stansbury was a devoted family man. He took great pride in his grandchildren and was supportive of their many endeavors. He was an avid supporter of Lakeside Christian Academy at Morehead and was a huge fan of the school-s Lady Falcons. He, likewise, enjoyed serving the Morehead and Rowan County community. Visitation will be in Morehead on Sunday, March 6, 2011, after 4 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011, at the New Salem Baptist Church, 2775 Deatsville Road, Cox-s Creek, KY 40013 with the Rev. Victor Stansbury officiating. Visitation will be at the church after 1 p.m. on Monday. Interment will follow in the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be William Allen Fulkerson, Lee Thomas Stansbury, Perry Wilder, Chris Stansbury, Jon Stansbury, Shawn Futrell, Lawrence Ballard, Fabian Ballard, and Charles Ballard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Lakeside Christian Academy Lady Falcons, 2535 U.S. 60 West, Morehead, KY 40351.
