Obituary

Charles Alden Fugate, age 82, of Knapp Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012, at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born February 14, 1929, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late John Lewis Fugate and Nancy Ann Sargent Fugate. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Timothy Fugate in 1998; five brothers, Fred, Noah, Ernest R., Russell G., and Billy Fugate; and two sisters, Josie Susan Lane and Anna Ruth Sargent Ellington. Survivors include his wife, Evlynn Howard Fugate, whom he married September 30, 1972; one son, Terrel A. Fugate and wife Sue of Frankfort, Kentucky; two stepsons, Randall M. Sloas and Rosa Menendez of Riverside, California, and Hershell Wayne Sloas and Tammy McComb of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Anita Fugate of Lexington, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Kimberly Kay Fugate and Amanda J. Brumley and husband James; two grandsons, Trevor W. Sloas and Kristopher R. Sloas; one great grandson, Noah Charles Oakley; several nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends. Charles served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, during the Korean War and was the recipient of the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Presidential Unit Citation, and Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He retired from Cowden Manufacturing Co. after more than 40 years of service and enjoyed spending time with his family, tinkering with all types of home electronics, and doing handyman jobs. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with John E. Fugate, Chris Bowman, and Pastor Ben Furman officiating. Full military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Visitation is from noon until 1 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Memorial contributions are suggested to Johnson First Church of God, 590 Cranston Road, Morehead, KY 40351 Visitation: Monday, January 30, 2012, noon - 1 p.m. Funeral: Monday, January 30, 2012, at 1 p.m.
