Obituary

Charles Elliott Skaggs, age 72, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, peacefully entered the loving arms of his Savior on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at residence of his son on McBrayer Road, Clearfield. Born October 13, 1937, in Elliott County, Kentucky, Charles was the son of the late Emmitt and Edith Simmon Skaggs. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Humphrey Skaggs and Lonnie Ray Skaggs; two sisters, Audrey Cox and Pauline Cox; one half brother, Johnny Skaggs; one half sister, Fay Wice; and two sons, Kendell Skaggs in 1973 and Randell Skaggs in 1978. His wife of 53 years, Jewell Dean Blankenbeckler Skaggs, entered the loving arms of her Savior on July 19, 2008. He is survived by four sons, Donald Skaggs and wife Paula of Morehead, Kentucky, Ronald -Jay- Skaggs and wife Patti of Clearfield, Kentucky, Charles -Darren- Skaggs and wife Vickie of Elliott County, Kentucky, and Wendell Skaggs and wife Nikki of Morehead, Kentucky; 22 grandchildren including Randall Jay whom he raised; and 21 great grandchildren. Other survivors include one brother, Robert Skaggs of Carter City, Kentucky; three half brothers, Jackie Skaggs and Jimmie Skaggs both of Michigan, and Benny Skaggs of Missouri; four sisters, Anna Pearl Oakley of Mansfield, Ohio, Myrtle Slusher of Red Bird, Kentucky; Hallie Hatfield of Hudson, Florida, and Mary Ellen Oakley of Carter City, Kentucky; four half sisters, Barbara Jean Mays of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Arlene White of Morehead, Kentucky, Jannie Blevins of Lexington, Kentucky, and Susie Townsend of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Skaggs was a former plant supervisor at Wickes Lumber in Mansfield, Ohio, and also a carpenter. While living in Mansfield, he was a deacon at the Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Austin Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Skaggs Cemetery in Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Chris Skaggs, Jesse Skaggs, Kyle Skaggs, Michael Skaggs, Tyler Skaggs, and Joshua Skaggs Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, Kentucky. Visitation: Thursday, August 19, 2010, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Friday, August 20, 2010, at 1 p.m. Interment: Skaggs Cemeter, Sandy Hook, KY
