Charles E. "Charley" Roberts, age 79, of KY Highway 801 South, Morehead, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019, at his residence. Born October 13, 1939, in Morehead, he was a son of the late Pinkard Lloyd Roberts and Esta Thomas Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George L. Roberts, and a sister, Jeanette Deloris Roberts Cornett. Charley is survived by one son, Charles Zane Roberts and wife Rosemary of Morehead; one daughter, Barbara Lee Carpenter and husband Keith of Nicholasville; the mother of his children, Minnie Lewis Roberts of Nicholasville; and two grandchildren, David Random Carpenter and William Randall Carpenter. Other survivors include two sisters, Ruby Cornett and Connie Roberts of Morehead; three brothers, Billy Roberts of Morehead and Clyde Roberts and Elijah Roberts, both of Ypsilanti, Michigan; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends. After graduating from Rowan County High School, Charley moved to Chicago, Illinois, to work in the steel mills. He returned to Morehead and was employed as a truck driver for Caudill Tire Company prior to beginning a 31-year career with G.T.E. He retired from General Telephone in 1995. Charley was known by many for his cowboy hats. He enjoyed mowing his yard, saving cans for recycling, and having coffee every morning with his friends at McDonalds. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Minister Mike Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Carpenter, William Carpenter, David Carpenter, Larry Bailey, Glendon Goodpaster, and Derek McClellan.
